Monitor Switch is an application for the Macintosh which allows you to switch resolutions on your multisync monitor without the hassle of changing the cable that is connected to the built-in video. It is similar to DPI-on-the-fly and Radius Resolutions; but it is compatible with more Macintosh models, allows switching to more resolutions, and is more compatible with other software (it is an application rather than an INIT/CDEV, and it doesnユt patch any traps).
COMPATIBILITY
Monitor Switch is known to work with any multisync monitor on the following Macintosh computers:
・ LC III
・ Centris 610
・ Centris 650
・ Quadra 700
・ Quadra 800
・ Quadra 900
・ Quadra 950
It should also work with the following computers, although no monitor settings files are available for them in this release:
・ Centris 660AV
・ Quadra 840AV
・ Some PowerBooks
・ Some DuoDocks
GETTING STARTED
Switching Resolutions:
Simply open the folder corresponding to your computer configuration, and double-click on the monitor settings file for the resolution you wish to use. If your copy is unregistered, you will see a registration reminder for about 20 seconds. If this version of Monitor Switch does not contain settings files for the resolutions you wish to use, then you will need to create your own settings files or wait for a future release of Monitor Switch which does contain them. The most convenient way to switch resolutions is to place the monitor settings files that you use into your "Apple Menu Items" folder or onto your desktop for easy access.
Creating a Monitor Settings File for a New Resolution:
・ make sure your computer is off
・ connect the proper cable and/or adaptor for the resolution
・ power on your computer
・ adjust the number of colors/grays in the monitors control panel as desired
・ restart your computer
・ launch Monitor Switch
・ select "Save As..." from the "File" menu, picking an appropriate name for the resolution
・ select "Quit" from the "File" menu
DISTRIBUTION
Monitor Switch is shareware. It may distributed freely as long as it has no potential for profit (direct or indirect) by the distributor. Other distribution arrangements must be made with the author in advance. Any distribution of Monitor Switch must include the following files (・) and folders (/):

The latest version of Monitor Switch is always available by automatic e-mailing through the Optimus software archive. To find out how to get software from the archive, just send e-mail to "d.suggs@ieee.org" with "automail" as the subject and "help" on a line by itself in the body.
REGISTRATION
A nice feature of this software is that you may try it before you buy it. Monitor Switch may be used free of charge for 30 days. If you use it for more than 30 days you must register your copy immediately by sending $20 (US) to the author:
David Suggs
3101 Shoreline Drive, #311
Austin, TX 78728-4436
USA
A check or a money order is preferred, and it must be drawn on a US bank. Foreign customers may find an international money order (available at post offices) or cash more convenient. Be sure to include your full name and your mailing address. You may print the Registration Form file or write your own form. You will receive a registration card which includes your serial number. When you type in your name and serial number by selecting "Register..." from the "File" menu, you will no longer see the notice indicating that your copy is unregistered.
The $20 registration fee will license one copy of Monitor Switch for use on any one computer at any one time. The copy may be used by any number of people and may be moved from one computer to another as long as there is no possibility of it being used simultaneously on more than one machine.
Thank you for your support.
EARN $ OFF YOUR REGISTRATION
If you create a monitor settings file that is not included in this release and are the first submit it by e-mail, you may take $2 off your fee when you register. For each such file, you may subtract $2; however, the registration fee can never be less than $0. All submitted files must be created using Monitor Switch after restarting your computer in the highest number of colors supported at the resolution used (use the Monitors control panel to set the highest number of colors, restart, then use "Save As..." from Monitor Switch). Name each file according to the monitor type listed under "Options..." in the Monitors control panel.
Convert your submissions to BinHex format and send them by e-mail to "d.suggs@ieee.org" before you register. Be sure to indicate the type of computer and the amount of VRAM installed. Do not mail your registration form until you receive acknowledgement by e-mail that your files were received.

OTHER GREAT SOFTWARE FROM OPTIMUSェ
Look for Narrow21 in your favorite shareware archive. It makes your built-in video output appear narrower at the 21-inch resolution of 1152x870. This is necessary for monitors such as the E-machines T16II, MAG MX-17S, and Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 17".
